Troy, Turkey

It was recommended that I visit the ancient ruins of Troy first before I embarked further into Turkey.  Made famous as the setting of the Trojan War described in the Greek Epic Cycle and especially in Homer’s Iliad.  The ruins were not well intact compared to other sites I’ve seen in the past, but the historic significance was impressive.  The city had been rebuilt many times over, and the explanations throughout the site illustrate the archeological differences.  Had I seen others sites like those at Pamukkale first, I would have been disappointed with Troy.  But visiting this place initially was a good way to be introduced to the history of this region.
