Fes, Morocco

Having thought that Luxor was the capital of the hassle during this trip, the imperial city of Fes proved to be worse. While the Kairaouine Mosque and the Medersa Bou Inania were impressive given their historical significance, the constant pressure from shopkeepers and faux-guides ruined the latent magnificence of the world’s oldest existing Islamic medieval city. On a brighter note, U2 had filmed ‘Mysterious Ways’ in the ‘new’-Old City of Fes, as well as recently recorded there for their upcoming 2008 album. Despite my poor sentiments of Fes, I did enjoy the company of Barbie, Saqib, and Assad whom I met in Chefchaouen, and are all from California.
