Three years ago when I was backpacking, I met some Aussies in Olympos, Turkey. They told me that the scuba diving and reefs were far better in The Red Sea than at the Great Barrier Reef. After having been in the Red Sea, I would have to agree with their statement. It was my first time scuba diving, and although it was really cool to breath under water, I thought it was tragic that the reefs appeared to be damaged and not as healthy as they should be (at least from where I was diving). It’s rather ironic that I make this statement, considering that my own diving experience has contributed to the aggregate degradation of the reef.
