The ring that I ordered for Nathania arrived a little earlier than anticipated, so I needed to act quickly to carry out the proposal. To surprise Nathania, I asked our priest Fr. Glenn to send a made-up email, asking us to sign “Form 3” at St. Joseph’s College on the University of Alberta campus (where we go to church for Mass on Saturdays). Of course there was no form, it was just a clever excuse to go the church chapel while it was still empty and we could be by ourselves. Having arrived early, we waited in the chapel. My heart was thumping. Nathania asked if I was okay. I quickly responded by saying I was out of shape and that was the reason my heart was beating quickly!
Nervous, I first shared my favourite memories I had of her and us over the course of our relationship so far. Next, I led Nathania up to the alter in hand to the exact spot where we are to marry next spring. I mentioned that I spoke to her parents yesterday and received their blessing to marry her. I took out the box that housed her engagement ring, went down on one knee, and asked Nathania if she would marry me and be my wife. She said yes!
